COPANīs Press and Communications Areas Restructured
The Organizing Committee of the XIV Pan American Games announced the restructuring of its press and communications areas by appointing Jorge Suncar as the General Director of Media and Public Relations, and journalist Mario Emilio Guerrero as the Director of the Press Centers.
In a letter addressed to all the personnel of the COPAN, its executive vice-president, vice-admiral (ret.) Ramon Emilio Jimenez Reyes explains taking into consideration the extraordinary role of communications in the success of the Pan American Games, the Committee has decided to take the necessary measures to contribute to the strengthening of this important area.
As the General director of Media and PublicRelations, Suncar is now in charge of the Press Direction, the Direction of the Press Centers, the link between CBC and Public Relations.
The letter explains that the General Direction of Media and Public Relations and its dependencies, will be under the supervision of the vice-presidencies, with which it shall coordinate its requirements and needs.
There are two vice-presidencies of the COPAN: the Executive Vice-Presidency, directed by vice-admiral Jimenez Reyes; and, the Second Vice-Presidency, held by licenciado Reverend Manuel Estrella.
The dependencies of the communications area of the COPAN have already initiated their work under Suncarīs dierection, who has already met with each of their directors.
It is expected that more than 5000 athletes will compete in 35 sports, in the XIV Pan American Games. Presently, 42 countries members of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) have already pre-registered.
The countries that have already pre-registered in the different competitions are the United States, Cuba, Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Ecuador, Bolivia, Panama, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala and Puerto Rico.
Other countries that have pre-registered are: Jamaica, Haiti, U.S. Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Barbados, Bahamas, Bermuda, Belize, Santa Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent, Netherlands Antilles (Curazao, Boanire, San Martin, Saint Eustatius and Saba), Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Antigua, Surinam, Granada and the Dominican Republic, which as the host country has a mandatory participation in the competitions of the 35 sports.
The sports to be contended are: water sports (swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo), archery, athletics (track and field, marathon), badminton, basketball, baseball, bowling, boxing, canoe, cycling, equestrian, fencing, water ski, football, gymnastics, weightlifting, field hockey, judo, karate, wrestling, roller skating, jai alai, modern pentathlon, racquetball, rowing, softball, squash, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, shooting, triathlon, sailing, volleyball (beach and indoor).
