Rains delay Pan Am preparations

Meteorologists are saying that tropical storm Claudette could become a hurricane as it continues its sweep across the Caribbean, but that it is no longer threatening Dominican territory, report the papers. The storm caused heavy rainfall in the Dominican Republic over the last two days, and is now looming towards the Cayman Islands and Mexico’s Yucatán peninsula. Diario Libre reports that the rains have led to further delay in the preparations of sporting facilities for the Pan American Games due to start on 1 August.
